Six (6) trainers under the National Youth Authority Apprenticeship Programme in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality have received training equipment to enhance effective skills development and practical instruction.
The presentation ceremony was held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, marking the official rollout of the first batch of the programme in the municipality. The initiative currently supports six (6) trainers and thirty (30) trainees and is aimed at equipping young people with employable and self-reliant skills to help curb youth unemployment.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, John Atteh Matey, together with the Eastern Regional Coordinator of the National Apprenticeship Programme, Emmanuel Asente Ofori, presented the equipment to the beneficiaries.
Five (5) dressmaking trainers each received:
• Five (5) Butterfly hand sewing machines
• One (1) industrial sewing machine set
• One (1) neating machine set
• Additional accessories
Each complete set is valued at over GHS 14,000.00.
In addition, one (1) hairdressing trainer received a professional hair dryer and other essential tools to support practical training delivery.
In his brief remarks, Hon. John Atteh Matey urged the people of Manya Krobo to take full advantage of the programme, emphasizing government’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment through skills development and sustainable job creation initiatives.

John Atteh Matey, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, paid a surprise visit to the Children’s Ward of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Hospital as part of activities marking the Day of Love.

The visit, which coincided with Valentine’s Day and National Chocolate Day, featured the presentation of chocolates to children on admission and their caregivers. The thoughtful gesture brought smiles and moments of joy to the ward.

Many parents and caregivers described the visit as a pleasant surprise and expressed sincere appreciation for the MCE’s show of compassion and solidarity. The interaction fostered an atmosphere of warmth, love, and encouragement, underscoring the significance of empathy and human connection—particularly for children undergoing medical treatment.

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development at the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly on the 29th of January, 2026 organized a 4 in 1 program under the support of the Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Coordinating Director at the Municipal Assembly Hall. The programs were
1. Education and sensitization program
2. Health screening for the vulnerable aged, widows and PWDs
3. Registration and renewal of National Health Insurance Cards (NHIS)
4. Get-together party for the above listed people

1. An education and sensitization session on the new DAFC Guideline to strengthen and equipe the knowledge of PWDs in the municipality.
2. Health screening on the normal vital signs (Blood Pressure check, pulse, temperature, etc), Blood Sugar Test, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), Dental Check, the Eye and any other relevant check-ups to check the health status of all vulnerable especially after the Christmas and New Year Festivity.
3. Registration and Renewal of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for the beneficiaries whose cards were expired, missing and didn’t have at all.
4. New year get-together to show love and socialize with the vulnerable
The Head of the Department, Madam Grace Ama Baiden, stated that the reason for the all these programs is to make sure the vulnerable are not left out in the society especially after a festive celebration and a new year. She restated their maximum commitment to continue doing their best to bring relief to the people they serve, especially the vulnerable aged, widow and persons with disability.

She took the opportunity to express their heartfelt appreciation to Hon. John Martey, Municipal Chief Executive for the Municipality, for greatly supporting this initiative. She was also grateful to Mr. Afadu, the Municipal Coordinating Director of the assembly for his love and support for the department.

Mr. Samuel Affadu, the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, led the Municipality’s National Sanitation Day exercise for the month at Nuaso Township on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
In his address to residents, he urged inhabitants to make cleanliness a top priority, stressing that a clean environment is essential for the promotion of public health and overall well-being.
The exercise recorded strong participation from residents of both Nuaso Old Town and Nuaso New Town, as well as students from Manya Krobo Senior High School (MAKROSEC) and personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service within the Municipality. Working together, participants undertook a comprehensive clean-up to improve the sanitation and general appearance of Nuaso Township.

As part of ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure within the municipality, a series of activities were undertaken on 20th January, 2026, including a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an assembly hall at Manya Krobo Senior High, Akro Sec Tech, the commissioning of a kitchen and canteen facility at Odumase Presby Basic School, and the commencement of construction works on a female dormitory at Oborpa West Community Senior High School. These projects are aimed at enhancing teaching, learning, and student welfare across the municipality.
The assembly hall project, funded by GETFund and undertaken by Piwak Construction Limited, is designed to serve as a multipurpose facility for school assemblies, examinations, cultural programs, and other official school activities. When completed, the facility is expected to significantly enhance the administrative and social life of the schools.
The program also featured the commissioning of a kitchen and canteen facility for Odumase Presbyterian Basic School, as well as activities relating to the construction of a female dormitory at Oborpa West Community Senior High School.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency officially stated that the main purpose of the gathering was to perform the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an assembly hall for the schools. He explained that the project forms part of broader efforts to improve educational infrastructure and create a conducive learning environment for students and staff. The MP expressed gratitude to the Eastern Regional Minister for her swift support, which contributed to the approval and commencement of the projects. He assured stakeholders of his commitment to educational development and prayed for the early and successful completion of the project by the contractor.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey Adjei in her address, underscored the importance of the assembly hall to the schools, noting that it would promote discipline, unity, and effective school administration. She commended the MP, who also serves as a Deputy Minister, for his dedication and continuous efforts toward development, particularly in the education sector.
The Heads of the schools, expressed deep appreciation to the dignitaries present for their support and commitment to the project. They highlighted the long-standing need for an assembly hall and emphasized its importance to effective school management and student development.
As part of the program, a newly constructed kitchen and canteen facility at Odumase Presbyterian Basic School was officially commissioned. The facility is intended to improve feeding services and provide a safe and comfortable space for pupils.
The Headmistress of Odumase Presby School, Madam Phyllis, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the MP for initiating and supporting the project. She stated that the facility would greatly ease the burden on pupils and staff, especially during the rainy season. She further assured all stakeholders that the facility would be properly utilized and well maintained.
The program also highlighted the construction of a female dormitory at Oborpa West Community Senior High School. The project is aimed at addressing accommodation challenges that will be faced by female students, particularly those who will travel from distant communities to attend the school.
The Chief of Oborpa West expressed profound gratitude to the dignitaries present for supporting the initiative. He noted that the dormitory would provide safe and decent accommodation for students coming from far distances, thereby improving access to education, promoting girl-child education, and enhancing student welfare.
The sod-cutting and commissioning activities mark important milestones in the Municipality’s efforts to enhance education delivery. The construction of the Akro Sec Tech and Manya Krobo Senior High Assembly Hall, the Odumase Presby School kitchen and canteen, and the female dormitory at Oborpa West Community Senior High School reflect government’s commitment, through GETFund and constituency-level interventions, to improving learning environments. The Municipal Assembly will continue to monitor the projects to ensure quality execution and timely completion.

On Friday, 16th January, 2026, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly hosted a working visit from the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS). The visit formed part of efforts to engage staff, assess operational practices, and outline strategic directions aimed at strengthening local government administration and service delivery.
The delegation was led by the Head of Local Government Service, Professor Lord Kwaku Mensah, accompanied by the Chief Director, Mrs. Felicia Dapaah Agyeman-Boakye.
In his address to management and staff, Professor Lord Kwaku Mensah presented his vision for the Local Government Service, emphasizing reforms and best practices that would enhance efficiency and accountability.
He stressed the importance of data-driven decision-making, noting that policies, planning, and resource allocation should be guided by accurate and timely data to ensure effective outcomes. He also highlighted the need for professionalism at the workplace, urging staff to uphold ethical standards, discipline, and respect in the discharge of their duties.
Furthermore, the Head of Service encouraged the adoption of Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs) as a means of mobilizing additional resources and expertise to support development projects. He also underscored the principle of physical decentralization, explaining that bringing services closer to communities would improve accessibility and responsiveness in governance.
During the engagement, the Head of Local Government Service made several observations concerning administrative and operational practices within the Assembly.
He emphasized the need for strict compliance with attendance monitoring procedures, particularly the consistent use of the clock-in (biometric) device, to promote punctuality and accountability. He also drew attention to the importance of adhering to established reporting lines, explaining that proper communication channels are essential for effective supervision and coordination.
The issue of staff training and capacity building was highlighted, with a call for continuous learning to enhance performance and improve service delivery. He further stressed the need to respect institutional authority and status, reminding staff to recognize and uphold the hierarchy and mandates of offices within the Local Government Service.
Additionally, he cautioned that official posting directives must be strictly adhered to, as non-compliance affects service efficiency and organizational discipline. He also recommended the establishment of a crèche facility at the Assembly to support nursing mothers and promote staff welfare.
The Head of Local Government Service also introduced several new initiatives aimed at strengthening institutional governance and improving staff development.
He announced the introduction of an anti-sexual harassment and abuse policy, aimed at ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment for all staff. To enhance staff capacity, he introduced an e-learning platform, under which all staff would be required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of training annually, with a strong emphasis on AI-generated learning content. This initiative is expected to be implemented every year to promote continuous professional development.
He further encouraged interdepartmental collaboration, noting that teamwork and shared responsibility are critical to achieving institutional goals. Lastly, he highlighted the need for adequate logistics and working tools, explaining that the provision of appropriate resources would significantly improve staff efficiency and overall productivity.
The visit by the Office of the Head of Local Government Service was insightful and impactful, as it provided strategic direction, identified key areas for improvement, and introduced initiatives aimed at enhancing performance and service delivery within the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly. Management and staff were encouraged to take the observations and directives seriously and work collectively towards achieving excellence in local governance.

Hon. John Atteh Matey, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, on 15th January, 2026, announced significant infrastructural projects aimed at improving second-cycle institutions within the municipality.
He disclosed that Manya Krobo Senior High School (MAKROSEC) and Akro Technical Senior High School will each be equipped with a modern Assembly Hall, while the Oborpah E-Block Project will be expanded through the construction of two additional dormitory blocks. He added that ground-breaking ceremonies for these projects will be held in the coming days.
The MCE made these announcements during a colourful ceremony at MAKROSEC, where he addressed the gathering at the official swearing-in of the newly constituted Board of Governors. He further assured the MAKROSEC community that the school will receive a new bus within the year to enhance the transportation of students and staff.
The announcements were met with enthusiasm and appreciation from the entire gathering, as they were seen as timely and welcome developments for the school and the wider educational community.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly on Friday 5th December 2025, held the 41st Edition of the Farmers Day Celebration at Oborpa West, a farming community within the municipality under the theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure Ghana”. The celebration reaffirmed the recognition of farmers as the backbone of Ghana’s economy and emphasized their contribution to food security and local economic growth.
The Municipal Agriculture Director stated in brief remarks that agriculture remains the backbone of the economy and the celebration aligns with the theme: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure Ghana”. According to him, 125 Farmer-Based Organizations (FBOs) were registered under the Feed Ghana Programme and also 48 rice farmers received training on efficient rice production techniques. The department also participated in the Commodity Satellite Market in Koforidua to expose farmers to marketing opportunities. Farmers were encouraged to continue breaking new frontiers.
According to the Member of Parliament, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Teye Larbi, farmers feed the entire nation and deserve recognition as such. He encouraged them to make good use of government programs such as nkoko nkete kete and other government intervention relative to agriculture to increase their productivity. The MP further indicated that, communities in the Municipality without electricity will soon put on the National grid. He urged the farmers to continue their hard work and appreciate government support.
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Atter John Matey commended farmers for their commitment to feeding Ghana. He said the theme supports the national Feed Ghana Program me. According to him, Government has planned of subsidizing farm tools and inputs. Hon. Atter John Matey further stated that the Somanya–Kpong road construction is ongoing and Plans are in place to establish a 24-hour economy market at Kpong. He encouraged the farmer to adopt agricultural practices to improve their yields.
In all, fourteen (14) farmers in various categories were gracefully rewarded for their hard work with Fifty-seven (57) year old man Mr. Agbetey Moses Tetteh from Oborpah East emerging as the Best Farmer in the Municipality. The awards included a motorbike, spray machine, clothes, and other farm-related items.

On his part, Mr Agbetey highlighted the essential role of agriculture as the backbone of Ghana’s economy and emphasized the need for farmers to adopt modern farming practices to improve productivity and ensure food security. The award recipient expressed appreciation to the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, the Department of Agriculture, traditional authorities, and all stakeholders for recognizing the hard work of farmers in the municipality. The award winner also acknowledged the support of family members and farm workers, noting that the achievement was a collective effort.
The Chairman for the programme in his closing remarks, stated that farming provides opportunities to all, including those with formal education. He expressed his confidence in Government, stating that Government will continue to address the challenges of the farmers. He encouraged the farmers to remain resilient and dedicated.
The event brought together farmers, fishers, dignitaries, traditional leaders, and community members to honour the vital role farmers play in the nation’s development.

A one-day SmartWorkplace training was held on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, at the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly. The training was facilitated by officers from the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) as part of efforts to strengthen the digital capacity of staff across the Assembly.
The facilitators took participants through the activation of corporate email accounts, login procedures, and an overview of the SmartWorkplace platform. Staff were trained on how to navigate the system, manage documents, initiate and approve workflow processes, and communicate effectively using the platform’s internal tools. Emphasis was placed on data security, proper handling of digital records, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
The session recorded good participation from departmental heads and their supporting staff. Participants were engaged throughout the training and expressed appreciation for the practical guidance provided by the OHLGS team. Staff also requested additional follow-up sessions to build on the skills acquired.
The training forms part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to enhance e-governance, improve workflow efficiency, and promote timely and coordinated communication.

The commissioning of the Kpong Wharf Fish Market was held on Wednesday, 5th November 2025 at Kpong Wharf in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality on the theme: ‘Empowering Fisher Folks for Sustainable Livelihood-Nurturing the Hands that Feed Us’. The project forms part of efforts to improve the working conditions and economic activities of fisher folks within the community. The construction of the market was financed by the Volta River Authority (VRA) in collaboration with the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly.
Hon. Raymond Gborson Assembly Member for Kpong-Ahundzo commended both VRA and the Municipal Assembly for their collaborative effort in delivering the project. He further appealed for the full completion of remaining works on the facility and encouraged the fisher folks to maintain the market to ensure its longevity and sustainability.
The representative from the Volta River Authority highlighted the Authority’s continuous support to communities within its operational zone, stressing that the safety and wellbeing of the fisher folks are of great concern to VRA. He emphasized the importance of relocating fisher folks from the river banks to a safer and more hygienic designated trading center. He reiterated that the project aligns with VRA’s social responsibility objective of ensuring sustainable livelihoods while protecting the river ecosystem, noting that sustainability remains a key guiding principle.
Hon John Atter Matey (MCE), in his speech indicated that the project was initiated upon the request of the Assembly soliciting funds from VRA, for which they have honored. He outlined the benefits of the fish market, which includes hygienic handling of fish produce, a safer and organized trading environment and structured economic activities to boost local revenue. He promised to provide street light and wash room to complement the fish market. The MCE further stated that government is implementing several interventions to support fisher folks nationwide, including the development of market infrastructure. He announced plans to establish a 24-hour economy market at Kpong and expressed profound gratitude to VRA for their continued collaboration and support.
The Chief of Kpong in his closing remarks expressed appreciation to VRA and the Municipal Assembly for the project and charged the community to take collective responsibility in safeguarding the facility. He appealed for the labelling of shelves and stalls for proper organization, and the construction of the access road leading to the market to enhance mobility and patronage.
The commissioning of the Kpong Wharf Fish Market marks a significant milestone in improving local economic activities and strengthening livelihoods among fisher folks. The collaborative effort demonstrates a shared commitment to sustainable development and social welfare. The community expressed optimism that the project will boost local commerce and improve living standards.
The ceremony brought together key stakeholders, traditional authorities, government representatives, and community members.
