REPORT ON STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT ON MEDIUM-TERM DEVELOPMENT PLAN (2026–2029)

The Youth and Women Empowerment (YOWE) in collaboration with the Planning Department of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly held a stakeholder engagement session on the preparation of the Municipal Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) for the period 2026–2029.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders including community representatives, youth groups, women associations, and opinion leaders to discuss developmental priorities for the municipality. The purpose of the engagement was to gather input from stakeholders to ensure that the MTDP reflects the real needs and aspirations of the people, while aligning with national development objectives.
Participants actively contributed ideas on priority areas such as education, health, job creation, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability. The discussions emphasized inclusive development, with particular attention to the empowerment of youth and women, and the need for sustainable strategies to improve livelihoods across the municipality.
The engagement ended successfully with a collective commitment from both the Assembly and stakeholders to work together towards the effective implementation of the forthcoming Medium-Term Development Plan.

COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION ON LEAP REASSESSMENT

From 25th to 29th August 2025, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly organized a community sensitization program on the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) reassessment exercise. The program was jointly chaired by Mr. Abraham Wayo from the Information Services Department and Mrs. Theresa Nartey from the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development.
The purpose of the sensitization was to educate community members and beneficiary households on the reassessment process, the importance of updating household information, and ensuring transparency and fairness in the program’s implementation.
The sessions attracted active participation from community leaders, opinion leaders, and beneficiary households. Presentations and discussions focused on the criteria for reassessment, responsibilities of beneficiaries, and the benefits of accurate data for sustaining the LEAP program. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions, and clarifications were provided to ensure a clear understanding of the exercise.
The sensitization ended successfully, enhancing community awareness and promoting cooperation towards the smooth execution of the LEAP reassessment in the municipality.

MCE AND MUNICIPAL EDUCATION DIRECTOR ENCOURAGE WASSCE CANDIDATES IN LOWER MANYA KROBO

On 25th August,2025, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo, Hon. John Atteh Matey, in the company of the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey, undertook an important visit to selected senior high schools within the municipality where the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is being written.
The schools visited included Akro Senior High Technical School, Krobo Girls Senior High School, Makro Secondary Technical School (MAKROSEC), and St. Anna’s Technical School. These institutions are among the major examination centers in the municipality hosting hundreds of candidates for the 2025 WASSCE.
The purpose of the visit was to interact with the students, provide words of motivation, and assure them of the Assembly’s and the Education Directorate’s support throughout the examination period. At each center, Hon. Matey and Mr. Tettey engaged with the candidates, encouraging them to remain confident, disciplined, and focused on their papers. They also reminded the students that the WASSCE represents a major step toward their academic and professional future, hence the need for seriousness, integrity, and determination.
Hon. Matey, in his remarks, stressed that the Municipal Assembly places great priority on education as a tool for human resource development and community transformation. He assured the candidates that their hard work and perseverance would not only bring honor to their families but also to the entire municipality. He urged them to avoid any form of examination malpractice and to rely solely on their preparation and God-given abilities.
The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Tettey, on his part, encouraged the students to keep calm during the examination period, manage their time wisely, and maintain discipline in and outside the examination halls. He emphasized the Directorate’s commitment to ensuring that the examinations proceed smoothly without interruptions.
The visit was warmly received by school authorities and students alike, with many candidates expressing appreciation for the encouragement and moral support from the MCE and the Education Directorate. Heads of the schools commended the gesture, noting that such engagements help reduce the anxiety and pressure students often face during external examinations.
This exercise forms part of the Assembly’s broader strategy of promoting quality education and ensuring that students in the municipality are given the moral and psychological support they need to excel in national and international examinations.

SUSTAINABLE FISHING AND PREVENTION OF CHILD LABOR

The Fisheries Commission on 14th August 2025, organized a stakeholder engagement on sustainable fishing at Kpong. The engagement brought together some institutions such as Ghana Health Service, National Disaster Management Organization, Police Service, Military, Agric Directorate, Opinion Leaders and Ghana Water Company to sensitize fishermen on how to practice sustainable fishing and prevent child labor.
Speaking on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Selorm Tibu the Municipal Coordinating Director stated that fishing and aquaculture is a vital source of income for many within the Kpong community. However, it has faced a challenge of bad fishing practices and unethical involvement of child labor hence it is prudent to highlight the sustainable fishing practices and the prevention of child labor to ensure that the people enjoy the natural resources provided to them while sustaining it for future generations.
Mr Patrick Apenteng Head of Fisheries Commission Akosombo, in his delivery indicated that, the Fisheries Commission has a mandate to ensure a long term conservation of aquaculture and water bodies, and this is done through preparing comprehensive plans for conservation, monitoring of fishing activities and addressing complaints from stakeholders. He said the Commission has a responsibility to educate all fishermen who practiced bad fishing methods such as use of light, use of chemicals and the use of dynamites. Mr. Apenteng said these unapproved method of fishing are harmful and prohibited because the use of light can disrupt the natural behavior and habitat for fishes, whiles the use of chemicals for fishing contaminate water bodies and is harmful for human and aquatic life. The use of dynamites is destructive and can devastate the entire ecosystem for fishes Mr. Apenteng said.
The Public Relation officer for Volta River Authority (VRA) has expressed concerns about debris in the river, which affects their operations and aquatic ecosystems. He said, the people in the Kpong community must adopt responsible waste management practices and avoid the use of the river as refuse dumps.
The Municipal Coordinating Director in his closing remarks stated that sustainable fishing and prevention of child labor are interlinked goals that require concerted effort from all stakeholders. He added that responsible fishing practices will sustain our water bodies for future generations, while educating our children will make them responsible and great scholars in future. Mr Selorm said, it is our collective responsibility to preserve these resources, recognizing the intrinsic value they hold for our well-being.

MCE CHAIRS MAIDEN MEETING OF RECONSTITUTED MUNICIPAL EDUCATION OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE

On Wednesday, 20th August 2025, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly held a special program at the Mini Conference Hall to inaugurate the reconstituted Municipal Education Oversight Committee (MEOC). The maiden meeting of the new committee was chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. John Atteh Matey.
The gathering, which brought together key stakeholders in the education sector, marked the beginning of renewed efforts aimed at enhancing supervision, coordination, and development of education within the municipality. The reconstitution of the MEOC is in line with government policy to ensure that educational oversight structures remain active, responsive, and capable of addressing the evolving challenges within the sector.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Matey underscored the critical role of the committee in shaping the educational landscape of the municipality. He emphasized that education remains a top priority for the Assembly, as it forms the foundation for human resource development, socio-economic growth, and long-term community transformation. He further called on members of the committee to work with dedication, unity of purpose, and a results-driven approach in discharging their mandate.
The meeting provided a platform to discuss key issues affecting education in Lower Manya Krobo, including school infrastructure, teaching and learning resources, teacher performance, and community participation in education delivery. Members also deliberated on strategies to strengthen supervision, promote accountability, and improve the quality of education at all levels.
Chief among the objectives of the reconstituted MEOC is to support the Municipal Education Directorate in monitoring performance indicators, coordinating interventions, and ensuring that government policies and programs are effectively implemented to benefit schools and learners across the municipality.
The re-launch of the MEOC signals the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in accessing quality education. Hon. Matey assured participants that the Assembly would continue to mobilize resources and foster partnerships with stakeholders to address challenges confronting the sector.
The meeting ended with members reaffirming their collective resolve to work diligently in support of educational growth and to create an enabling environment for pupils and students in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality to excel academically.

MCE PAYS COURTESY CALL ON AKOSOMBO DIVISIONAL POLICE COMMANDER

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Hon. John Atteh Matey, as part of his active duty engagements, paid a surprise courtesy call on the Akosombo Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Doris Grant, at her office in Akosombo.
The unannounced visit, though brief, was marked by fruitful discussions centered on the need to deepen collaboration between the Municipal Assembly and the Police Service in promoting peace, security, and law and order within the municipality and the broader Akosombo Police Division in the Eastern Region.
During the interaction, Hon. Matey emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to working closely with the Police Command to ensure the safety of residents, particularly in the face of emerging security challenges. He underscored the fact that peace and stability remain essential ingredients for social and economic development, and therefore pledged the continuous support of the Assembly toward policing efforts in the municipality.
Chief Superintendent Doris Grant, on her part, warmly welcomed the MCE and expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the thoughtful visit. She noted that the gesture was not only an honour to her office but also a sign of the strong partnership between the Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Police Service. She assured Hon. Matey of her unwavering commitment and that of her officers to upholding law and order, safeguarding lives, and protecting property across their operational jurisdiction.
Both leaders concluded their discussions with a shared resolve to intensify collaboration through joint strategies and community-centered initiatives aimed at preventing crime and enhancing public safety.

MCE COMMENDS PROGRESS ON SALOSI CULVERT PROJECT

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo, Hon. John Atteh Matey, has expressed great satisfaction with the steady progress of work on the ongoing Salosi Culvert project. The initiative is designed to restore the vital link road in the community, which has long suffered disruption due to the collapse of the original culvert.
The project, which is being undertaken by Millimate Construction Works, was officially handed over to the contractor by the MCE less than a month ago. Since then, visible progress has been made, with construction activities advancing steadily in line with the agreed timelines.
Speaking during a visit to the site, Hon. Matey commended the contractor for the commitment and professionalism demonstrated so far. He emphasized that the rehabilitation of the culvert is of immense importance to the municipality, as the restored road will not only improve transportation and accessibility for residents but also boost economic activity and enhance social connectivity in the area.
The MCE further expressed optimism that, judging by the pace of work, the project would be completed within the stipulated contract period. He assured the public that the Assembly would continue to monitor the works closely to ensure quality and value for money.
The Salosi Culvert project forms part of the Municipal Assembly’s broader efforts to improve road infrastructure across communities and to address key challenges that hinder mobility and development.

TSLEDOM FEEDER ROAD PROJECT IN LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL

On the 16th August,2025 Engineer Godwin Kaleshie began Tsledom feeder road project which is a Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly (LMKMA) priority intervention Project to improve all-weather access for residents, farmers, traders and schoolchildren in and around Tsledom. The road links the community to adjoining settlements and municipal service centers, facilitating movement of farm produce to markets and access to health and education services. The project aligns with the Assembly’s Medium-Term Development Plan and Ghana’s rural accessibility objectives under the Department of Feeder Roads (DFR). The Pictures below show ongoing work.

GHANA RICE PRODUCTION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (GRIP) DEMONSTRATION PLOT AT OKWENYA

The Agric Department of lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Ghana Rice Production Improvement Project (GRIP) under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project is situated in Lower Manya Krobo District, specifically in the Okwenya community.
The farm demonstration plot involves the Okwenya Rice Farmers Association, with rice varieties identified as AGRA and Legon 1. Transplanting on the plot was carried out on 16th June 2025.
The project is funded by JICA-GRIP and supported by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), the Eastern Regional Agriculture Department (RAD), and the Lower Manya Krobo District Agriculture Department.
This initiative demonstrates efforts to enhance rice production in Ghana through improved farming practices, capacity building, and collaborative partnerships between international donors and local institutions.

NATIONAL SANITATION DAY IN LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

As part of the nationwide effort to promote environmental cleanliness and public hygiene, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly observed the National Sanitation Day on Saturday, 2nd August 2025. The event aimed to encourage communal participation in waste management and cleanliness across the municipality.
Hon. Martey John, the Municipal Chief Executive of Lower Manya Krobo, played a leading role in the day’s activities. His involvement included:
• Mobilizing Community Members: Hon. Martey John personally engaged community leaders, youth groups, and market associations to ensure full participation.
• Public Sensitization: He addressed the gathering at the forecourt of the Assembly, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness to public health and urban development.
• Active Participation: The MCE took part in the clean-up exercise at key locations including the Agormanya Market area, Zongo Junction, and surrounding streets.
• Inspection and Motivation: He toured various clean-up zones, encouraging volunteers and sanitation officers, and ensuring the provision of necessary logistics such as gloves, brooms, and waste bins.
The presence and leadership of the MCE greatly motivated residents to actively participate in the exercise. The activity resulted in the clearing of major drains, removal of refuse heaps, and the general improvement of sanitation within the municipality.
Hon. Martey John’s direct involvement in the National Sanitation Day activities demonstrated his commitment to promoting a clean and healthy environment in Lower Manya Krobo. His leadership contributed to the overall success of the event and further reinforced the Assembly’s sanitation and hygiene agenda.
