LOWER MANYA KROBO CELEBRATED THE 69TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

On 6th March, 2026, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality joined the rest of the nation to commemorate the Ghana’s 69th Independence Day with a colorful celebration held at the Laasi Park, Odumase Krobo. The event was organized on the theme, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.”
Nineteen (19) schools within the Municipality participated in the celebration.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Honorable John Atteh Matey who served as the Reviewing Officer for the ceremony, in his address emphasized that independence is not merely a historical event but a continuing responsibility that requires commitment from every citizen. He noted that the theme for this year’s celebration calls on Ghanaians to reflect on the nation’s achievements, review existing challenges, and reset national priorities towards sustainable development and prosperity.
He also stated that national development depends on unity, discipline, accountability, and hard work. Citizens were therefore encouraged to set aside differences in ethnicity, religion, and political affiliation and work together for the development of the Municipality and the nation as a whole.
He further reiterated the importance of providing a conducive learning environment and urged students to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to their academic pursuits. He also encouraged the youth to develop technological and entrepreneurial skills to enhance their future prospects.
The highlight of the celebration was the colorful march past by the nineteen participating schools, during which students displayed a high level of discipline, coordination, and patriotism.
The program was climaxed with the presentation of awards and certificates to deserving students and schools. Awards were presented to the best candidates in the recently concluded BECE and WASSCE examinations, while certificates of participation were presented to the participating schools for their performance during the march past. Certificates of merit were also awarded to deserving schools. Special recognition was given to the Air Force Cadet, which achieved 100% performance in its category.
The Assembly used the occasion to call on residents to continue to promote peace, unity, discipline, and patriotism as essential elements for the development of the municipality and the nation.
In attendance were the Municipal Chief Executive, Municipal Police Commander, Municipal Director of Education, the Clergy, Traditional leaders, heads of schools, the security services, staff of the Municipal Assembly, representing schools, the media, and the general public.

Commissioning and Handover of 12-Unit Dormitory Block at AMEST

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, Hon. John Atteh Matey, on Monday, March 2, 2026, officially took delivery of a newly completed 12-unit dormitory block with ancillary facilities at the Akuse Methodist Technical Senior High School (AMEST).
The project comprises a 20-seater water closet (WC) toilet facility, a mechanised borehole with overhead polytanks, a large bathroom facility, an ironing area, and a multi-room bungalow. These facilities are expected to significantly enhance student accommodation and improve staff welfare within the school.
Following a successful practical completion and technical inspection, Hon. John Atteh Matey received the keys to the facility and commended both the contractor and the consultant for the quality of work delivered within a notably short timeframe.
Addressing the gathering, the MCE expressed his profound appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, for fulfilling his commitment to complete abandoned government projects across the country. He noted that the completion of the AMEST dormitory block stands as a clear demonstration of the President’s resolve, explaining that the project had remained abandoned since 2016.
Hon. John Atteh Matey indicated that following the President’s intervention, a new contractor was engaged around August 2025 to resume work on the project. He added that the project was successfully completed ahead of schedule in February 2026. The MCE further assured the AMEST community of government’s continued commitment to providing additional infrastructural support to further enhance the school’s development.
Speaking on behalf of the school’s management, staff, and students, the Headmistress of AMEST, Mrs. Christiana Frimpong, expressed sincere appreciation to the President of the Republic and the Municipal Chief Executive for the urgency attached to completing the previously abandoned project.
She noted that the timely completion of the dormitory block has significantly improved the learning environment for students. Mrs. Frimpong also appealed to the government to continue supporting the school with additional infrastructure to facilitate effective teaching and learning.
The completion and handover of the facility marks a significant milestone in efforts to improve educational infrastructure and promote quality education within the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.
