The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly on 25th August, 2026 distributed various items to Thirty-five (35) People lliving with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Municipality. The purpose of the program is to support their livelihoods and improve their living conditions.
The items were presented at a short durbar held at the forecourt of the Assembly.
The initiative forms part of government commitment to support PWDs and promote their social and economic well-being.
Mrs Grace Ama Baiden Municipal director of Social Welfare and Community Development in her welcome address indicated that this is the Twelve (12) batch of beneficiaries receiving the support since inception of the program making a total of Seven Hundred and Forty-One (741) people benefited.
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. John Atteh Matey in his speech stated that, the source of funding is a percentage of the district Assembly Common fund as established by law.
He further stated that, the Assembly is making frantic effort to ensure that, others who are yet to benefit receive it in the next batch. Hon. Matey advised those that did not join the Association to do so.He cautioned the beneficiaries against selling or misusing the items, stressing that doing so could deprive them of future support, since other PWDs were also waiting to benefit from the program.
The items distributed included freezers, refrigerators, bags of maize, plastic chairs, knitting machines, Indomie products, crates of eggs, shoe-grinding machines, a cassava mill, mattresses, a wheelchair, bags of charcoal and gallons of cooking oil.
The presentation brought joy to the beneficiaries, expressing their appreciation for the support and pledged to use the items for the intended purpose.
The ceremony was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director, staff of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, other Assembly staff, representatives of the traditional authority, members of the media and the general public.

A two-day capacity-building training programme for Assembly Members of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly was held from 17th to 18th August 2026 at the Assembly Hall of the Municipal Assembly.
The programme was organised by the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) and coordinated by Mr. Nana Sarfo Kantanka and Mr. Boadu. The training formed part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of Assembly Members to effectively discharge their constitutional and statutory responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to local development.
Focus of the Training
The training focused on key aspects of local governance, administrative procedures, accountability, leadership, representation, and community development. It provided participants with practical knowledge and insights to enhance their effectiveness as elected representatives at the local level.
Among the key areas covered was decentralisation and local governance laws, with emphasis on the roles and responsibilities of local governance institutions and stakeholders. Participants were guided on the legal and institutional framework within which Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) operate.
The programme also examined corporate governance and oversight, highlighting the importance of transparency, accountability, ethical conduct, risk management, and effective oversight in promoting good governance at the local level.
Strengthening Representation and Deliberative Functions
Participants received training on the representative functions of Assembly Members, including identifying and articulating community needs, communicating citizens’ concerns, and promoting inclusive participation in local decision-making processes.
The training further addressed deliberative functions and meeting procedures, equipping Assembly Members with knowledge on effective participation in deliberations, constructive debate, proper meeting procedures, and adherence to Standing Orders. These were emphasised as essential to ensuring orderly, transparent, and effective decision-making within the Assembly.
By-Laws, Executive Mandates and Discretionary Powers
Another important area of the training was the making and enforcement of by-laws. Participants gained a better understanding of how local by-laws are developed and enforced to promote orderly governance, public compliance, and community development.
The executive mandates of MMDAs and discretionary powers were also discussed, with emphasis on the responsible exercise of authority within the confines of the law. Participants were encouraged to ensure that decisions and actions taken in the performance of their duties are guided by relevant legislation, established procedures, and the principles of good governance.
Leadership and Community Mobilisation
The final sessions focused on leadership and community mobilisation, with particular emphasis on collaboration, effective communication, inclusiveness, and stakeholder engagement.
Participants were also introduced to the Leadership Change-Making Project, an initiative that encourages leaders to develop and implement practical interventions aimed at addressing specific community challenges and achieving measurable positive outcomes.
Conclusion
The two-day training provided Assembly Members of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality with valuable knowledge and practical skills to enhance their performance and effectiveness.
The programme is expected to strengthen the capacity of Assembly Members to promote accountability, effective representation, inclusive decision-making, community participation, and sustainable local development. It also reinforced the importance of responsible leadership and collaboration in advancing the development priorities of the Municipality.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly has held its 1st Ordinary Meeting of the 3rd Session of the 8th General Assembly at the Assembly’s transparency hall on 30th July 2026, with Hon. George Amatey, Presiding Member chairing proceedings.
The meeting brought together Assembly Members, the Municipal Chief Executive, heads of departments and other stakeholders to deliberate on matters concerning the development and progress of the Municipality.
In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Atter Matey, highlighted the Assembly’s commitment to promoting development through prudent management of resources and effective implementation of programs and projects for the benefit of residents.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for members to deliberate on key issues affecting the Municipality and make decisions aimed at improving service delivery and the living conditions of residents.
After deliberations, the Assembly reached the necessary decisions on matters presented before it, reaffirming its commitment to advancing the development of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly on 28th July, 2026 officially handed over the Akuse road project site to Beet West End Construction Ltd. in a ceremony attended by government officials, traditional authorities, Assembly staff, stakeholders, and members of the public. The event marked the commencement of a major road rehabilitation project aimed at improving transportation, enhancing economic activities, and promoting the overall development of Akuse and its surrounding communities.
In his welcome address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) warmly welcomed all dignitaries and participants to the ceremony. He expressed appreciation for their presence and emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to supporting government initiatives that improve infrastructure and the quality of life of residents. The MCE noted that the road project would significantly enhance accessibility, facilitate trade, reduce travel time, and improve road safety for motorists and pedestrians.
The Chief of Akuse, on behalf of the traditional authorities and residents, expressed profound gratitude to the Government of Ghana for responding to the long-standing request for the rehabilitation of the road. He acknowledged the importance of the project to the socio-economic development of the area and appealed to community members to cooperate fully with the contractor to ensure the successful completion of the project.
The Member of Parliament (MP) also conveyed appreciation to the Government for listening to the concerns and appeals of the people of Akuse. He indicated that the road project demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the developmental needs of the constituency and improving the welfare of the people. He encouraged residents to support the project by protecting the construction works and creating a peaceful environment for the contractor.
The Regional Minister Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey commended the President of the Republic, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, and the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly for making the project a reality. He assured the people that government remains committed not only to the rehabilitation of the Akuse main road but also to the improvement of inner roads within the township to enhance mobility and accelerate development. He urged all stakeholders to collaborate to ensure the timely and successful execution of the project.
The contractor, Beet West End Construction Ltd. expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the company. He assured the gathering that work would commence promptly according to the agreed schedule and pledged to deliver a durable, high-quality road that meets the required engineering standards. He further assured the public that every effort would be made to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining quality workmanship and safety throughout the construction period.

The ceremony concluded with the official handing over of the project site to the contractor, signifying the commencement of the road works. Participants expressed optimism that the successful completion of the project would greatly improve transportation, stimulate economic growth, and contribute to the overall development of Akuse and the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.
