On Friday, 10th July,2026, Hon. John Atteh Matey, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, together with Management and Staff of the Assembly, participated in a comprehensive clean-up exercise at Odjadornya in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. The exercise brought together personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Ambulance Service, waste management companies, the construction team working on the Kpong–Somanya Highway, staff of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), traditional leaders, community members, and other stakeholders in a united effort to improve environmental sanitation within the municipality.
The clean-up exercise focused on desilting major drains and clearing choked gutters to facilitate the free flow of stormwater and reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season. Participants removed accumulated silt, weeds, refuse, plastics, and other debris from drains and waterways, while sweeping the surroundings and ensuring that waste was properly collected and disposed of. The coordinated effort significantly enhanced the cleanliness of the area and demonstrated the importance of collective action in maintaining a healthy environment.
The exercise formed part of Day One of the two-day National Clean-Up Exercise initiated by the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, as part of a nationwide campaign to address flooding challenges affecting various parts of the country. The initiative also sought to improve environmental sanitation, promote proper waste management practices, and encourage citizens to take greater responsibility for keeping their communities clean.
Addressing participants during the exercise, Hon. John Atteh Matey commended all the institutions, volunteers, and community members for their commitment, teamwork, and dedication towards the success of the exercise. He emphasized that environmental sanitation is a shared responsibility and urged residents to refrain from indiscriminate disposal of refuse into drains and waterways, which contributes significantly to flooding and environmental degradation. The Municipal Chief Executive also expressed appreciation to the security services, waste management companies, the NHIS, the Kpong–Somanya Highway construction team, traditional authorities, and all other stakeholders whose collaboration contributed to the successful execution of the exercise. He noted that sustained partnerships among government institutions, private organizations, and community members remain essential in achieving lasting improvements in environmental sanitation.
