TREE PLANTING EXERCISE AT MOUNT MARY BASIC SCHOOL

As part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability and instill the culture of tree planting among school children, a tree planting exercise was organized at Mount Mary Basic School in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality on 25th June, 2026.
The program commenced with an address by the Municipal Coordinating Director, who emphasized the importance of trees in sustaining life and protecting the environment. He highlighted the numerous benefits of trees, including their role in improving air quality, preventing soil erosion, providing shade, and combating climate change.
The Coordinating Director reminded participants of their collective responsibility to nurture and protect the environment. He encouraged the students to serve as ambassadors of the trees planted, ensuring that they are properly cared for and protected. In stressing the importance of environmental conservation, he stated, “The day the last tree dies, the last man also dies,” underscoring the critical relationship between human survival and the preservation of nature.
The Headteacher of Mount Mary Basic School expressed appreciation to the organizers and assured all present that the school would take proper care of the trees to ensure their healthy growth and long-term survival.
The symbolic planting of the first tree was carried out by the Municipal Coordinating Director, officially launching the exercise. Various species of trees were planted on the school compound, including Mahogany, Royal Palm, and Cashew trees.
Students, teachers, and officials actively participated in the planting exercise, demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection and beautification of the school environment.
The tree planting exercise was successful and served as an important platform for educating students on environmental stewardship. The participation of municipal authorities, various security agencies, forestry commission, media, school management, and students reflected a shared commitment to preserving the environment for future generations. The event ended with a renewed pledge by all stakeholders to nurture the planted trees and promote sustainable environmental practices within the municipality.

Lower Manya Krobo MCE Undertakes Site Inspection of Kpong–Somanya Highway Project

Hon. John Atteh Matey, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, on Monday, June 1, 2026, joined the contractor responsible for the Kpong–Somanya Highway project on a site inspection to assess and address concerns raised by residents along the road corridor.
One of the major issues identified was at Kodjonya, where runoff water had flooded a resident’s business premises. Following a thorough assessment, it was agreed that an additional storm drain would be constructed in the area to improve drainage and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The MCE appealed to residents to maintain confidence in the Assembly’s leadership and to promptly report any challenges they observe to enable the appropriate interventions to be undertaken.
Several other concerns along the project route were also inspected and will be presented for discussion at the next project site meeting.

Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly Engages Stakeholders to Strengthen HIV/AIDS Prevention and Management Efforts

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly organized a stakeholder engagement on HIV/AIDS, bringing together key partners and stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for strengthening community-based efforts in the prevention, management, and control of HIV/AIDS, as well as addressing related public health concerns.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Samuel Affadu, Municipal Coordinating Director of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, encouraged participants to actively contribute their expertise, insights, and commitment toward safeguarding the community against the impact of HIV/AIDS. He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration, collective responsibility, and coordinated action among stakeholders to effectively address the challenges posed by the disease.
Speaking at the engagement, Ms. Margaret Kodi, the Assembly’s HIV/AIDS Focal Person, called on stakeholders to become strong advocates in the fight against HIV/AIDS. She highlighted the importance of intensified public education, awareness creation, and community outreach initiatives in reducing new infections, combating stigma and discrimination, and promoting healthy lifestyles among residents.
The engagement provided a valuable platform for dialogue, experience sharing, and the exchange of ideas, while also facilitating the development of practical and sustainable approaches to addressing HIV/AIDS-related issues within the municipality.
