HANDIND OVER OF SITE FOR KPONG 24 HOUR ECONOMIC MARKET PROJECT

On Tuesday, 12th May 2026, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality marked a significant milestone with the official handing over of site for the construction of the proposed 24-Hour Market at Kpong. The occasion brought together traditional leaders, government officials, municipal authorities, transport unions, consultants, contractors, and members of the community, all united in anticipation of a transformative project that is expected to boost economic activities within the municipality.
The program commenced with welcoming remarks delivered by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Attey Matey. In his address, he warmly welcomed all distinguished guests and participants to the ceremony and outlined the purpose and activities of the day’s event. He emphasized the importance of the 24-hour market project to the development agenda of the municipality and expressed confidence that the initiative would create employment opportunities, improve trading conditions, and stimulate local economic growth.
Among the distinguished personalities present were the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi Ebenzer; the Head of the Municipal Ambulance Service, Mr. Kennedy Mensa; the Chairman of Kpong GRRTU, Mr. Vincent Husunu; the Municipal Works Engineer, Mr. Afrifa Boampong; the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Samuel Affadu; and the Kpong Divisional Chief, Nene Kpabitey Nyarko I.
Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the enormous benefits the project would bring to the people of Kpong and the municipality as a whole. The modern market facility is expected to include essential support infrastructure such as a fire service station, pharmacy, police station, crèche for children, women bank and cold store facilities. It was emphasized that the market would not operate as an ordinary marketplace but rather as a modern commercial hub designed to enhance safety, convenience, and efficiency for traders and consumers alike. Special mention was made of the inclusion of spaces for local food vendors and abolo sellers, ensuring that local businesses and traditional economic activities are integrated into the new development.
Furthermore, road construction works linked directly to the market project are expected to improve accessibility and transportation within the area, thereby making the market a central point for commercial activities.
In his remarks, Nene Kpabitey Nyarko I expressed great joy and appreciation for the project. He thanked the President and government for bringing such a major development initiative to Kpong and assured the contractors and consultants of the full cooperation and support of the traditional authorities and the local community to ensure the successful execution of the project.
The consultants, FeDems, together with the contractors Akudams Ltd, assured the gathering of their commitment to delivering quality work within schedule. They indicated that the project is expected to be completed within a period of 18 to 20 months.
The handing over ceremony ended on a hopeful and optimistic note, with stakeholders expressing confidence that the 24-Hour Market project will become a major driver of economic transformation and development in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

HANDING OVER OF MONO DESKS TO BASIC SCHOOLS IN THE LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPALITY

On Tuesday, 12th May 2026, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly officially handed over mono desks to basic schools within the municipality as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning conditions for pupils.
The ceremony brought together key dignitaries and stakeholders in the education sector, including the Municipal Director of Education for Lower Manya Krobo, Mr. Samuel Kwasi Tettey; the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Attey Matey; the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Samuel Affadu; as well as several headteachers from basic schools across the municipality.
Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Attey Matey, stated that the initiative forms part of the government’s commitment under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama to improve educational infrastructure while promoting environmental sustainability. According to him, the government is gradually moving away from the production of school furniture made entirely from wood in order to reduce the indiscriminate cutting down of trees.
He explained that the newly introduced mono desks are designed with metal frames and limited wooden components to ensure durability and sustainability. He further noted that the furniture is expected to last longer and provide comfort for pupils in schools throughout the municipality.
Hon. Matey further assured the gathering that the distribution of desks is only the beginning, adding that more furniture supplies are expected in the coming months. He disclosed that the government also plans to provide teachers’ tables and kindergarten furniture to schools to further enhance the teaching and learning environment.
The distribution exercise saw the allocation of thousands of chairs, desks, and tables to beneficiary schools within the municipality. So far, thirty-six (36) schools have benefited from the exercise. Among the beneficiary schools, Agomanya R/C Primary “A” received the highest number of desks, totaling one hundred and twenty (120), due to the need to furnish its newly constructed school block.
The desks were officially handed over to the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Samuel Kwasi Tettey, who expressed appreciation to the government for its continuous support and commitment towards educational development in the municipality.
Mr. Tettey pledged that the Education Directorate would ensure the desks are properly distributed and maintained to benefit schools that are in urgent need of furniture. He also appealed for additional support for Junior High Schools, stressing that many JHS students within the municipality continue to face serious desk shortages.
The event ended with expressions of gratitude from school authorities and other stakeholders, who described the intervention as timely and beneficial to both teachers and students in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

SUPPORT TO FEMALES IN SMES

On the 7th May,2026, the National Youth Authority under the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with partner NGOs, organized a distribution exercise to support female beneficiaries engaged in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).The programme aimed at empowering women economically, promoting entrepreneurship, and reducing unemployment within the municipality.
Various work items and vocational tools were distributed to beneficiaries based on their respective trades. The items included industrial sewing machines, hair dryers, catering equipment, and other startup tools to help improve their businesses and livelihoods.
The beneficiaries comprised dressmakers, hairdressers, caterers, traders, and other women engaged in vocational and entrepreneurial activities.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) expressed sincere appreciation to the partner NGOs for their generosity and commitment to women’s empowerment and community development. The MCE encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the items received to improve their businesses and living conditions.
The programme is expected to enhance women’s participation in economic activities, improve household incomes, and contribute to poverty reduction and local economic growth within the municipality.

THE COMMISSIONING OF THE DIVISIONAL POLICE HEADQUARTERS AT LAASI,  ODUMASE-KROBO

On Friday, 1st May 2026, a significant milestone in strengthening security infrastructure in the Eastern Region was marked with the commissioning of the Krobo Divisional Police Command Headquarters at Lasi. The event brought together high-profile dignitaries, traditional authorities, security personnel, and members of the general public.
The ceremony was graced by the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, who served as the Special Guest of Honour. Other notable dignitaries in attendance included the Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debra, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetter Yohuno, the Eastern Regional Minister Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Hon. John Atteh Matey Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Konor of Manya Krobo Nene Sakitey.
In his keynote address, the President emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing national security and ensuring the safety of citizens through strategic investment in modern policing infrastructure. He noted that the establishment of the Krobo Divisional Headquarters would significantly improve police response times, enhance law enforcement operations, and promote peace and stability in the Krobo area and its surrounding communities.
As part of his support for effective policing, the President donated one pickup truck and two motorbikes to the Krobo Divisional Police Command. The vehicles are expected to enhance mobility, improve rapid response capabilities, and facilitate patrol activities within the municipality and its environs.
The Inspector-General of Police, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the government for its continued support of the Ghana Police Service. He assured the public that the facility would be effectively utilized to maintain law and order and to strengthen community policing efforts. He further urged officers posted to the new command to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
The Eastern Regional Minister also commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would boost security and support socio-economic development in the region. The Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive both expressed their gratitude to the government and stakeholders for bringing the project to fruition, highlighting its importance to the local population.
The event featured a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by the President, followed by a guided tour of the newly constructed facility. The headquarters is equipped with modern offices, conference rooms, holding cells, and essential logistics to support efficient policing.
The commissioning ceremony concluded with expressions of appreciation from community leaders and a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to collaborate in maintaining peace and security within the municipality.
