LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY LAUNCHED BUSINESS IN THE BOX PROJECT

The Ghana Enterprises Agency in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality on Monday 11th March, 2024 launched a Business in the Box (Bizbox) project at the Municipal Assembly Conference Hall.
The aim of the program is to empower the Youth in the Municipality who are within the range of Fifteen- Thirty-Five (15-35) years and are willing to undergo an apprenticeship training to become skill artisans in future. This initiative is part of government effort to reduce unemployment situation in the country.
Mr. Edmond Addo head of Business Advisory Center (BAC) in his presentation explained the Bizbox as the assumption of people having little or no knowledge about handworks and had been put together in a box. He therefore advised that whenever one wants to learn a trade or venture into any business without any knowledge on it he or she can come to their office for an assistance. Mr. Edmond Addo further indicated that artisans who will register with Agency will also benefit from the program by allocating the apprentice to them and pay for their training. He said when the apprentices are done with their training government will support them with start-up kits to start their work.
The Chairman for the program Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, the Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo and also the NPP parliamentary candidate in his speech stated the need for the youth to grab this opportunity as it will help develop the individuals and the Municipality as a whole. He pointed it out to the participant that there is an already existing opportunity to the people living with disabilities (PWDs) where government gives support to them by purchasing the items the beneficiaries want to sell. He stated that from 2017 to February this year a total of 600 people with disabilities benefited.
Hon. Simon said the Bizbox project should not be politicized as it will benefit everyone irrespective of one political affiliation. He said they are looking forward to see over Eighty-Five Thousand (85,000) youth benefiting from this initiative.
He ended his speech by announcing his dream to become Member of Parliament for the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency and called on all and sundry to support him with their votes in order to make this dream reality.
In attendance were the MCE Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, Rev. S.B Lawerteh (PCG, Kpong Bethel), The Chief Imam, and Hon. Emmanuel Siakwa NPP Constituency Chairman among others.

PRESERVATION OF AGRICULTURE PRODUCE

The Youth and Women Empowerment (YOWE) a non-government organization in the Lower Manya Municipality in partnership with Rite FM (90.1) had on the 29th February, 2024 organized a workshop for farmers in the Lower Manya Krobo, Upper Manya Krobo, and Yilo Krobo. The workshop at the Conference Hall of the Assembly was on the Theme ‘Food security, Job creation, and improved livelihood amidst climate change’. The workshop aimed to educate the public, especially the farmers, on how to treat their farm produce to be hygienic, presentable, and available on the market for sale.
Dr. Theodora A. Asiamah in her presentation stated the need for farmers to treat their crops well and also advised them to practice personal hygiene as well to avoid diseases so that they can produce more to feed the citizenry.
In preserving food to get market, she asked the farmers to use the right method and chemicals for preservation so that the food would not be contaminated.
Dr. Theodora Akweley Asiamah appealed to the Municipal Assembly to do something about the road network in the farming communities within the Municipality so that commodities produced can be transported to the market centers at ease. This will make the farmers reduce the prices for buyers to purchase at a reasonable price since the cost of transportation is less.
Mr. Alex Fordjor deputy Municipal director of Agriculture in his presentation also reiterated the need to practice hygiene in preserving their food. He again advised that farmers should use organic fertilizers more on their farm produce rather than inorganic ones. He indicated that preserving the food items can keep long without spoiling.
Mr. Fordjor spoke briefly on climate change and advised everyone on the need to study the weather conditions to know when to plant and harvest. He also advised them on the need to avoid bushfires because it may not only destroy the food crops but also cause the depletion of the ozone layer thereby affecting the seasons.

LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY FAILED TO ELECT PRESIDING MEMBER FOR THE SECOND TIME

Hon. Assembly Members for the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly on 22nd February, 2024 held a special meeting at the conference hall of the Assembly.
The meeting was basically convened to elect Presiding Member of the Assembly. This followed the refusal to meet the required percentage immediately after Assembly was inaugurated. It has become imperative to call for this special meeting Ten (10) days after the first election per the Electoral Commission to elect the Presiding Member for the second time.
The Electoral Commission opened a nomination for members to file for the position and by closed of nomination, Hon. Philip Tetteh Batsa former Assembly Member for Agormanya South electoral area now government appointee was the only person who has filed. According to Electoral Commission, for a member to be elected as Presiding Member he or she must obtained votes of Two-thirds or more of the entire membership. Since the entire membership of the house is Forty-Seven (47) a contestant must obtained at least Thirty-Two (32) votes of the total votes cast.
By closed of pool, Hon. Philip Tetteh Batsa had Twenty-Five (25) votes which is below the threshold.

FORTY-SEVEN ASSEMBLY MEMBERS SWORN IN

The newly elected Assembly Members and government appointees of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly were on Monday 12th February, 2024 sworn into office by His Honor Kwasi Appiati Badu, a circuit court judge of Odumase Krobo, and inaugurated by the Minister for Works and Housing and Member of Parliament for Bantama Honorable Asenso Boakye at the conference Hall of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly.
This was in accordance with section 3 of the Local Government Act 2016, Act 936
In a speech read by Hon. Asenso Boakye on behalf of His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, urged the honorable Assembly Members to strictly complied with section 16 (1) of the Local Government Act 2016, ACT 936 which requires Assembly Members to maintain close contact with their electoral area, consult the people on issues to be discussed in the District Assembly, collate views, opinions and proposals, take in communal and development activities amongst others.
He also advise the Assembly members to form an alliance with stakeholders and developmental partners with the aim of developing the Municipality.
Hon. Asenso Boakye further advise the Honorable Members to collaborate with the Assembly to improve upon the revenue in order to carry out more indispensable projects.
The newly inaugurated Assembly members comprises Thirty- One (31) elected, Fourteen (14) government appointees, the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo Constituency.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo Hon Simon Kweku Tetteh on his part welcomed the newly inaugurated Assembly Members and said Honorable members are mandated by sections 12 (1) and 13 of the local government act 2016 ( act 936) to formulate and execute plans, programmes and strategies for the effective mobilization of resources for development of the Municipality.
He therefore expressed his commitment and that of the staff to collaborate with them to achieve this objective.
He also mentioned that although the duties of an Assembly Members is predicament, it takes a hardworking, discipline and sacrificial member to execute his/her duties to the satisfaction of electorates in their respective electoral areas.
He pleaded with the Hon. Members to set aside petty quarrels, mistrust and go about their duties devoid of political polarization as the laws of local government frowns on it.
Other dignitaries who graced the august occasion were the Parliamentary candidate for Yilo Krobo Constituency on the ticket of New Patriotic Party Hon Twum Briamah, Heads of security agencies within the Municipality, Heads of Department, Clergy and some Traditional Authorities.

LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HANDED OVER ITEMS TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITY

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly on 9th February, 2024 handed over some items to Twelve (12) people living with disability at the forecourt of the Assembly.
Hon. Emmanuel Siakwa Nuertey the constituency Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Lower Manya Krobo in his welcome address thanked the people present for making time out of their busy schedule to be part of the program.
Addressing the gathering on the purpose of the program, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh said Twelve (12) people living with disability will received items from the government to start business to make a living. He said the items were purchased upon the request of the beneficiaries. He admonished the beneficiaries not to have any other taught on the items rather than the intended purpose for which it was purchased. He made it known to them that a taskforce is in place which goes round occasionally to monitor on the performance of their activates and that if any of them is caught diverted the items, he or she will find him or herself regretted. He said this is the Tenth (10th) batch of people receiving the items making a total of Six Hundred (600) people since 2017.
Hon. Municipal Chief Executive took the opportunity to announce his candidature as parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency. He asked them to vote for him coming December 7th to bring more developmental projects into the Municipality.
The items presented were Refrigerators, Poly thank, used Clothing, Pepper grinding machine, knitting machine among others.

DISSOLUTION OF THE INTERIM MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE (IMC) OF THE LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

The Interim Management Committee Meeting of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly scheduled on Wednesday 31st January 2024 at 11:00 to Dissolve the committee.
Following the successful conduct of the District Level Elections (DLEs) in December, 2023 and the subsequent election of new Assembly Members for various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development in collaboration with the Office of the President has scheduled Tuesday 6th February, 2024 to inaugurate the new Assemblies across the country.

Delivering smart solution for sustainable food security and resilience -FARMERS DAY 2023

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly (LMKMA) on Friday 1st December 2023, held the 39th Edition of the Farmers Day Celebration at Ayermesu, a farming community within the municipality under the theme, “Delivering smart solution for sustainable food security and resilience “.
Fourteen (14) farmers in varied categories were gracefully rewarded for their hard work with Mr Henry Amoatey emerging as the Best Farmer in the Municipal Assembly.
On his part, Mr Amoatey expressed his gratitude to the Agriculture department and the management of the Assembly for recognizing his hard work and investment into the noble profession. Therefore, he urged youth to venture into farming and not deem it a punishment as it is profitable.
The Municipal Agriculture director in brief remarks applauded the awardees for their hard work and challenged them to climb the ladder of success and win an award at the regional level in subsequent years.
He also advised inhabitants to engage in backyard farming due to high inflationary pressure on food. He also mentioned the poor state of roads as one of the contributory factors to the high cost of food on the market and pleaded with the government to come to their aid.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly Hon. Simon Kwaku Tetteh commended the awardees for exhibiting hard work over the years.
He further added that their resilience and hard work over the years have resulted in them being celebrated on a memorable day.
Hon Simon revealed that the Government has hugely invested in agriculture under a component of Planting For Food And Jobs called the Planting For Export and Rural Development by providing registered farmers with three thousand (3,000) mango seedlings, Four thousand (4,000) coconut seedlings and thirty-seven thousand (37,000) oil palm seedlings amongst others.
The results-oriented MCE also mentioned that the Government under the leadership of Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo recently launched the second phase of the Planting for food and jobs to make the youth take center stage in farming
He added that, with this phase, the government will make available mechanized farm inputs, storage facilities, a digitized platform for monitoring, and a ready market for the farmers after harvesting.
He however mentioned that the government is putting in place measures to resolve the challenges of the high cost of farm input, land ownership, and limited access to financial support amongst others.
Other dignitaries present at the August occasion were Heads of security agencies, Heads of departments and units, clergy, former awardees, and Assembly members.

EMMANUEL AYERTEY HEARING IMPAIRED RECIEVE SUPPORT FORM LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

Emmanuel Ayertey, a hearing-impaired young man from Kodjonya in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, received massive support to establish his own bakery.

Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, MCE for Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, through the department of social welfare and community development, presented flour, margarine, and other baking materials to the young man to help him get back to his feet.

Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh entreated the beneficiary to put all the things received into good use to be able to take care of himself and his dependents.

Mrs. Grace Ama Baiden, Director at the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, hinted in an exclusive interview with www.krobolandonline.com that more people living with disabilities in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality are earmarked to receive government support through the Municipal Assembly this year.
