On Friday, 1st May 2026, a significant milestone in strengthening security infrastructure in the Eastern Region was marked with the commissioning of the Krobo Divisional Police Command Headquarters at Lasi. The event brought together high-profile dignitaries, traditional authorities, security personnel, and members of the general public.
The ceremony was graced by the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, who served as the Special Guest of Honour. Other notable dignitaries in attendance included the Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debra, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetter Yohuno, the Eastern Regional Minister Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Hon. John Atteh Matey Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Konor of Manya Krobo Nene Sakitey.
In his keynote address, the President emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing national security and ensuring the safety of citizens through strategic investment in modern policing infrastructure. He noted that the establishment of the Krobo Divisional Headquarters would significantly improve police response times, enhance law enforcement operations, and promote peace and stability in the Krobo area and its surrounding communities.
As part of his support for effective policing, the President donated one pickup truck and two motorbikes to the Krobo Divisional Police Command. The vehicles are expected to enhance mobility, improve rapid response capabilities, and facilitate patrol activities within the municipality and its environs.
The Inspector-General of Police, in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the government for its continued support of the Ghana Police Service. He assured the public that the facility would be effectively utilized to maintain law and order and to strengthen community policing efforts. He further urged officers posted to the new command to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
The Eastern Regional Minister also commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would boost security and support socio-economic development in the region. The Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive both expressed their gratitude to the government and stakeholders for bringing the project to fruition, highlighting its importance to the local population.
The event featured a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by the President, followed by a guided tour of the newly constructed facility. The headquarters is equipped with modern offices, conference rooms, holding cells, and essential logistics to support efficient policing.
The commissioning ceremony concluded with expressions of appreciation from community leaders and a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to collaborate in maintaining peace and security within the municipality.
