On Tuesday, 12th May 2026, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly officially handed over mono desks to basic schools within the municipality as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning conditions for pupils.
The ceremony brought together key dignitaries and stakeholders in the education sector, including the Municipal Director of Education for Lower Manya Krobo, Mr. Samuel Kwasi Tettey; the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Attey Matey; the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Samuel Affadu; as well as several headteachers from basic schools across the municipality.
Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. John Attey Matey, stated that the initiative forms part of the government’s commitment under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama to improve educational infrastructure while promoting environmental sustainability. According to him, the government is gradually moving away from the production of school furniture made entirely from wood in order to reduce the indiscriminate cutting down of trees.
He explained that the newly introduced mono desks are designed with metal frames and limited wooden components to ensure durability and sustainability. He further noted that the furniture is expected to last longer and provide comfort for pupils in schools throughout the municipality.
Hon. Matey further assured the gathering that the distribution of desks is only the beginning, adding that more furniture supplies are expected in the coming months. He disclosed that the government also plans to provide teachers’ tables and kindergarten furniture to schools to further enhance the teaching and learning environment.
The distribution exercise saw the allocation of thousands of chairs, desks, and tables to beneficiary schools within the municipality. So far, thirty-six (36) schools have benefited from the exercise. Among the beneficiary schools, Agomanya R/C Primary “A” received the highest number of desks, totaling one hundred and twenty (120), due to the need to furnish its newly constructed school block.
The desks were officially handed over to the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Samuel Kwasi Tettey, who expressed appreciation to the government for its continuous support and commitment towards educational development in the municipality.
Mr. Tettey pledged that the Education Directorate would ensure the desks are properly distributed and maintained to benefit schools that are in urgent need of furniture. He also appealed for additional support for Junior High Schools, stressing that many JHS students within the municipality continue to face serious desk shortages.
The event ended with expressions of gratitude from school authorities and other stakeholders, who described the intervention as timely and beneficial to both teachers and students in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.
