LEAP REASSESSMENT TRAINING

The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality organized a two-day program on Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty Reassessment training on the 13th and 14th of January, 2025 at the mini and main conference hall in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly.

 

The main objective of the training was to improve participants’ understanding of the reassessment objectives and methodologies, train participants in the effective use of digital tools for data collection and also to identify the target group.

Madam Theresah Nartey from the Social Welfare and Community Development Department emphasized that Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) program is a flagship initiative by the Government of Ghana and supported by the World Bank, UNICEF and other organizations to provide social cash transfers to vulnerable households. 

According to her, the reassessment program ensures that beneficiary data is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with eligibility criteria. She also identified some key considerations being; perception of politicization and partnership, integrity and reputation issues, financial and human resources requirements, negative media reportage among others as challenges in the reassessment program.

 

Mr. Prosper from the Statistical Service Department in the Municipality also highlighted some challenges they went through during the mop-up stage. These include; technical issues, language barriers, bad roads network, and network challenges when sending the data to the appropriate authorities. He further explained on the processes used in collecting the data.  

The Municipal Coordinating Director of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, Mr Selom Tibu encouraged the participants to keep up on their good work and continue to exhibit that leadership skills.

The training successfully equipped participants with the knowledge and skills needed for the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) reassessment process. The participants’ enthusiasm and the quality of facilitation contributed to achieving the training objectives. The department extended gratitude to all participants for their contributions.

In attendance were the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, The Committee members, and the Focal persons.
