The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality organized a two-day program on Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty Reassessment training on the 13th and 14th of January, 2025 at the mini and main conference hall in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly.
The main objective of the training was to improve participants’ understanding of the reassessment objectives and methodologies, train participants in the effective use of digital tools for data collection and also to identify the target group.
Madam Theresah Nartey from the Social Welfare and Community Development Department emphasized that Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) program is a flagship initiative by the Government of Ghana and supported by the World Bank, UNICEF and other organizations to provide social cash transfers to vulnerable households. According to her, the reassessment program ensures that beneficiary data is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with eligibility criteria. She also identified some key considerations being; perception of politicization and partnership, integrity and reputation issues, financial and human resources requirements, negative media reportage among others as challenges in the reassessment program.
Mr. Prosper from the Statistical Service Department in the Municipality also highlighted some challenges they went through during the mop-up stage. These include; technical issues, language barriers, bad roads network, and network challenges when sending the data to the appropriate authorities. He further explained on the processes used in collecting the data.
The Municipal Coordinating Director of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, Mr Selom Tibu encouraged the participants to keep up on their good work and continue to exhibit that leadership skills.
The training successfully equipped participants with the knowledge and skills needed for the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) reassessment process. The participants’ enthusiasm and the quality of facilitation contributed to achieving the training objectives. The department extended gratitude to all participants for their contributions.
In attendance were the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, The Committee members, and the Focal persons.

Staff durbar 2024

On the 23rd December, 2024 Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly held a staff durbar at the Municipal Assembly Hall at 10:00 am. The total number of workers attended was over One hundred and sixty (160) staff.
Rev. Stephen Amanor gave an opening prayer before the start of the durbar.
The Municipal Co-ordinating Director welcomed all staff to the maiden staff durbar for 2024 and mentioned the agenda for discussion;
1. Discussion on Pension related issues
2. Discussion on attitude towards work
3. Discussion on the Performance contract

The Municipal Chief Executive again welcomed staff to the durbar and thanked them for coming. The Hon. M.C.E. commented briefly on the performance of the assembly in the most recent DPAT exercise in which Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly performed commendably and acknowledged that this success could not be chalked without the contribution of staff and added that, he was tremendously grateful and encouraged everyone to carry on with the good work.
Officials from the Civil and Local Government Staff Association Ghana (CLOGSAG) gave a speech and explained the Pension schemes. Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and differentiated the differences between the Tiers. CLOGSAG official also gave information about how to be part of their plan and how to change Tiers and the benefit.
Staff had the opportunity to ask both the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive and Coordinating Director questions. The questions were rightfully answered.
The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive once again thanked all staff of the municipal Assembly for successfully passing the performance contract earlier in the year. He told the staff that the same hardworking performance would be needed again next year for the Assembly to pass the test.
He mentioned that all staff should be punctual and hardworking at all times. He also spoke about the reporting time to work and that the staff should be at work at exactly 8 am. This should be a new attitude they should adapt to if they weren’t punctual this year.

The Municipal Coordinating Director and the Municipal Chief Executive thanked staff for their attention and participation. They entreated all to continue to deliver for the development of Lower Manya and Ghana as a whole. They also thanked and encouraged staff for the hard work they have done in 2024. A closing prayer was given by Mr. Alhassan Yahaya the Deputy Coordinating Director.

The long awaited commission of One Hundred Eighty-Eight (188) lockable stores at Agormanya market had finally seen the light of the day on 25th November, 2024. The event which took place at the market brought about Thousands of residence to witness it. The stores were strategically located at the market to enable the Assembly gets value for money.
Honorable Simon Kweku Tetteh, the Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo in his speech expressed gratitude to all those involved in the construction of this remarkable structure. He emphasized that the project was financed by the Ghana Secondary City Support Program, a World Bank initiative which is aimed at enhancing developmental projects for some selected Municipality in the Country. He indicated that the duration for the program was Five years starting from 2019 to 2024. The Hon. MCE said, the program benefited the Municipality with so many infrastructure projects such as Road Construction, Business Resource Center, and Construction of Stores among others. He stated that in addition to this initiative, the Municipality again benefited with about Eighty (80) projects under the leadership of the Akufo Addo – Bawumia government. He urged the constituents to show their appreciation by voting for him and Dr. Bawumia to become Member of Parliament and President respectively. Furthermore, he reassured the audience that all necessary measures have been implemented to ensure the longevity of this magnificent edifice.
The Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, Honorable Martin Adjei-Mensa Korsah (MP) for Techiman South in his address emphasized that, the purpose of this project is to take care of Rural-Urban migration by providing to the people jobs and facilities they are looking for in the urban areas, hence this magnificent edifice. He presided over the official inauguration of the stores and handed it over to the Assembly. He was accompanied by Honorable Simon Kweku Tetteh (MCE) and some Chiefs and Queen mothers of the Traditional Area.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly commemorated the 40th Municipal Farmers Day celebration on 8th November 2024 at the forecourt of the Municipal Assembly. The event was held under the theme: ‘Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security’.
Fourteen farmers were honored for their exceptional dedication, with Mr. Fio Teye from Wawase, a farming community within the Municipality, adjudged as the Municipal Best Farmer of the Year. Mr. Fio Teye expressed his appreciation to both the Department of Agriculture and the management of the Assembly for acknowledging his relentless efforts and investments in the agricultural sector. He was awarded a certificate, a motorbike, and various farming input. He encouraged fellow farmers to persevere and remain steadfast in their agricultural pursuits.
The Municipal Director of Agriculture Mr. Godswill Glante in his remarks, lauded the awardees for their hard work and urged them to strive for increased agricultural productivity to meet the growing demands for food.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Simon Kweku Tetteh, commended the awardees for their unwavering commitment and diligence throughout the years. He highlighted the government’s emphasis on agriculture by introducing the DISTRICT ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME (DRIP) to improve the quality of road networks for easy transportation of agricultural produce to the market centers.
The Honorable MCE also mentioned some of the achievements made during his tenure, including the construction of a market for fish farmers at Kpong. He advised the gathering to abstain from violence before, during, and after the upcoming December 7th General elections.
A representative from the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) provided insights on the upcoming December 7th General elections and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and avoiding any form of violence during the electoral process.
The event was graced by the Chairman for the occasion, Honorable Philip Tetteh Batsa, the Municipal Chief Executive, representatives of Member of Parliament, Traditional Leaders, the Clergy, Heads and staff of various Departments, the Media, and other distinguished guests.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised an interfaith sensitisation for churches and mosques to promote peaceful elections, civic rights and responsibilities.
The event, which had the theme “Together We Can Get Involved,” addressed important topics such as hate speech, money in politics, disinformation/misinformation, and promoting religious and ethnic tolerance.
It was intended to equip citizens with the tools they need to actively contribute to preserving peace and stability during the general elections scheduled for December 7.
The commission visited several churches and mosques during its peace campaign, including Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Aklomuase, Christ Reminders Church in Abanse, Agormanya Zongo Masjid (Mosque), EP Church in Kpong, Royal House Chapel International in Kpong, New Testament Baptist Church in Kpongunor, and Kpong Masjid (Mosque).
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. David Livingstone Ansah, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Director of NCCE, said that the engagement was to deepen awareness of the need to prioritise peace throughout this year’s elections.

“Since it’s always hot during election seasons, it’s crucial to spread peace campaign so that people would understand how vital peace is to the advancement of the country,” he stated.
He advised Muslim youth at the Kpong mosque to refrain from defacing posters of political party opponents.
“We must politically tolerate religious diversity and refrain from disseminating false information on social media because doing so can spark riots, violence, and disturbances that could result in the deaths of innocent people,” he added.
He noted that that accepting money from politicians in exchange for votes was equivalent to selling their four years of existence in parliament, saying this is because,
“you can’t approach them for local developmental projects because he has already paid you.”
Mallam Mohammed Ibrahim, the Kpong Imam, cautioned the Muslim community not to allow themselves to be used for electoral violence.
He urged them to go home after voting and return in the evening to witness the counting process once the polls closed on election day.
“Islam is peace, and as peace-loving people, all we do is peace. Thus, we don’t want to see any bloodshed during or after elections,” he said.
Elder David Kemesour of Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Aklomuase advocated for increased community engagement and voter education to avoid spoiled ballots during elections.
“Because some people took money from all the aspirants, they are likely to thumbprint on all the candidates from whom they took money and end up spoiling the ballot,” highlighting the importance of educating voters to vote responsibly.

The head pastor of Kpong Royal House Chapel International, Mr. Joseph Asiwame, urged the NCCE to spread their peace message to the ghettos where street gangs congregate.
He stressed that it was crucially important for those people to be educated on the importance of prioritizing peace and understanding the negative consequences of poster defacing such as leading mayhem.

The newly appointed Eastern Regional Coordinating Director (RCD) Mr. Yaw Adu Asamoah, paid an official working visit to the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly on 21st October, 2024 at the Assembly’s conference hall.
The purpose of the visit was to familiarize himself with the operations of the Assembly, meet staff, assess their performances and address their challenges.
The Regional Coordinating Director expressed his gratitude for the warm reception he had received. He indicated that there is the need for staff to be punctual at work and adhered to working hours. Mr. Yaw Adu Asamoah suggested that, training sessions on professionalism and regular performance appraisals should be conducted for staff to ensure that workers met the expected standards of conduct and productivity.
He also highlighted the need to align the Assembly’s efforts with National Development Goals to ensure that every department within the Assembly contributes toward achieving sustainable growth in the Municipality. He reaffirmed a commitment to promoting transparency and accountability and call for collaboration and unity.
Bringing the discussion to an end, the (RCD) called for open forums to allow staff to share their concerns. Many of the staff raised issues regarding delays in promotions and professional development opportunities. A recommendation was made to introduce stricter measures for monitoring staff attendance and time management and also disciplinary procedures should be consistently applied in cases of misconduct or negligence.
Both Regional Coordinating Director and Regional Human Resource Manager responses were well-received and the staff expressed optimism about the steps being taken to address their issues.
The visit laid a strong foundation for collaboration between the new Coordinating Director and the Municipal Assembly as they work toward achieving their shared goals of development and service improvement.
In conclusion, the Director expressed optimism for the future, stating that the Assembly is on the right path but must strive for continuous improvement. He also pledged full support to the Assembly’s leadership and staff and looked forward to working closely with everyone to achieve the Municipality’s development agenda.

The 90th anniversary celebration durbar of Akro Senior High and Technical School in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality was held on 5th October, 2024 at the school assembly hall. The event marked a significant milestone in the school’s history and was attended by a wide array of participants, including Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, alumni, students, staff, parents, and local community members. The theme for the celebration was “90 years of imparting knowledge and skills, the indispensable role of the stakeholders for a brighter future”.
The Head master of the school, Mr. Charles Ossom Baah in his address, reflected on the history of the school, its growth, challenges, and its impact on both the local community and the alumni network. Over the past 90 years, Akro Senior High and Technical School has built a legacy of excellence in academics, sports, and community engagement. The school has consistently produced top results in national exams, with many students pursuing further studies at prestigious universities worldwide. Their achievements have been recognized through numerous awards for academic excellence, leadership and innovations.
Notable alumni have gone on to become leaders in fields such as business, medicine and the arts, further exemplifying the success and impact of the education they received at Akro Senior High and Technical School.
Despite the success of the 90th anniversary celebration, the school faces several ongoing challenges that affect both its current operations and future development. These challenges are not uncommon in educational institutions, and addressing them is essential to ensure sustained progress. These challenges include; bad road network, uncompleted school buildings, unavailability of cars for errands, uncompleted sick bay etc.
While the school has much to celebrate after 90 years, these challenges need to be addressed to ensure continued success and growth. By tackling infrastructure issues, enhancing teacher and student support, and securing more financial resources, the school can create a more conducive learning environment and sustain its legacy for future generations.
The Special Guest speaker, Prof. Godfred Owusu also advised the students to manage time wisely, balance academics and extracurricular, stay open to change and build strong relationships with teachers, peers and mentors for support and opportunities.
In conclusion, the 90th anniversary celebration of Akro Senior High and Technical school was a resounding success. The event not only highlighted the school’s legacy of excellence but also fostered a sense of pride and unity among attendees. The celebration has set the tone for continued progress and the achievement of even greater milestones in the future.
In attendance were representatives from the Office of the President, Ministers of State and Members of Parliament, Konor of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite II, Municipal Chief Executive of Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, Head Teachers from the various schools in the Municipality, Staff, Alumni, Parents, Students and other Stakeholders.

NADMO, WHO, AND VRA ORGANISED A SIMULATION EXERCISE ON FLOOD CONTIGENCY PLAN FOR LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

As part of the measures to curb the occurrence of disaster, National Disaster Organization (NADMO) in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) and Volta River Authority (VRA) tasked the Municipal Disaster Management Committee (MDMC) of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly to come out with a contingency plan to deal with flood situation in an event it happens in the Municipality. This was as a result of the recent spillage of the Akosombo Dam which affected some people in the Municipality.
The Committee had developed the plan and was validated by the above mentioned institution. It is imperative to test for a plan one has developed to see whether or not it will work for the reason it has been developed, hence the simulation exercise held on 1st October, 2024 at the Municipal Assembly Conference Hall.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh in his introductory remarks thanked the organizers for organizing this simulation exercise. The MCE stated that the purpose for the simulation was to let members of the Municipal Disaster Management Committee (MDMC) know what to do in an event they are faced with the real situation. He said the Assembly is committed to deploy all resources which would be needed by the MDMC to handle flood situations in the Municipality should disaster occur. Hon Simon asked members of the committee to pay attention and learn from the exercise.
Engineer Kwame Danquah, member of the team from VRA in his short address reiterated the purpose of the gathering and asked participants to pay attention for the exercise. He added that the repercussion of flood is so disturbing and so there is the need for the committee in place to handle it carefully.
Mr. Patrick Amevor, representative from the World Health Organization (WHO) in his statement indicated that, their organization is there to protect the masses from negative impact. Since flood is one of the causes that brings negative impact on the lives of people, their organization deemed it fit to partner VRA and NADMO to do the simulation. He asked members of the committee to make good use of the plan when the situation arise.
Mrs. Ruth Arthur, head of epidemic diseases at the NADMO head office who doubled up to be the simulation exercise coordinator thanked the MCE and everyone who in one way or the other make the exercise success.
Mr. Selorm Tibu, Municipal Coordinating Director in his closing remarks thanked the organizers for helping the committee to come out with flood contingency plan. He said he is of the belief that the committee will bring to bear what they learnt when they are faced with the flood challenges.

Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh (Municipal Chief Executive) on September 16th, 2024, handed-over about 900 mono and dual desks to the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Directorate at the forecourt of the Assembly. This is aims to enhance learning in both Junior High Schools (JHS) and Primary schools within the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.
The desks will be strategically distributed to maximize impact, prioritizing schools with the greatest need. This initiative demonstrates the Municipal Chief Executive’s commitment to improve education in the Municipality. He said he is determined to provide necessary infrastructure to the schools and believes it will enhance student engagement and focus, foster a positive learning environment, support teacher effectiveness, and promote academic excellence.
Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey expressed his delight and gratitude for the government’s support through the MCE. He requested for some other assistance such as sporting facilities, necessary text books to aid the teachers further improve the educational environment.
Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, MCE, promised to do his utmost to provide a conducive educational environment for the Education Directorate in the Municipality. He also reminded the audience of his intention to run for Member of Parliament (MP) in the upcoming December 7th general elections and solicited their support.
The Municipal Education Director and the Directorate will oversee the distribution, ensuring equitable allocation and efficient use of the donated desks.
