TWENTY-TWO (22) SEATER WATER CLOSET (WC) TOILET COMMISSION AT TAKPOM

Residents of Takpom, Ogome, and its environs in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality were overwhelmed with joy yesterday 8th August, 2023 as the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh commissioned Twenty- Two (22) seater WC toilet at Takpom.
People within these communities suffered from toilet facilities for about Three (3) years since the old toilet facility was demolished for reconstruction.
In a welcome address by Hon. Philip Tetteh Basta Assembly member for the area thanked the gathering for responding to the invitation to witness the event. He also thanked the contractor for the completion of the project. Hon. Philip Batsa advised the residents to take good care of the facility for it to keep long.
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh in his speech also thanked the contractor for making the project see the light of day. He thanked the community members as well for holding their peace since the project was not completed as scheduled.
The MCE took the opportunity to divulge some achievements such as the completion of the business resources center, the ongoing construction of the NHIS office at Nuaso, Three (3) CHPS Compounds at different locations in the middle belt of the Municipality, 1.2km road constructed at Kpanyas amongst others since he assumed office.
He declared to the gathering that, he is contesting the NPP constituency parliamentary election, and should he emerge the winner, the constituent should reward him for the good work he has done by voting for him to become a Member of Parliament for the Constituency in the 2024 general election.

INTERIM MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE (IMC) MEETING

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly after being successfully inaugurated, held its first meeting on 18th July, 2023 at the Conference Hall of the Assembly.
Hon. Simom Kweku Tetteh the Municipal Chief Executive in his introductory remarks thanked the gathering for making time to be part of the meeting. He said the meeting is considered to be one of the Assembly meetings and hence asked the participant to pay attention to the proceedings.
Hon. Philip Tetteh Batsa who chaired the meeting in the absence of the chairman Hon. Emmanuel Siakwa Nuertey also reiterated that the participant should pay attention and contribute to the discussion since it boarded on the development of the Municipality. He proceeded and asked the heads of the department present to brief the house on the mid-year activities they had carried out for the year 2023.
Presenting on health, Dr. Avorka, the Municipal health director said, his outfit has organized Five (5) vaccination campaigns for covid-19. He said out of Four Thousand Three Hundred and Seventeen (4,317) people tested for HIV, Three Hundred and one (301) people tested positive. Mr. Avorka said Four Thousand Four Hundred and Fourteen (4,414) people were screened for Tuberculosis (TB) and they were able to detect Seventy-Nine (79) active cases. Eighteen (18) people were also found contracted Yaws at Tsledorm a village in the Middle belt of the Municipality
Accounting for the finance of the Assembly, the Municipal finance officer Mr. Ernest Agroh briefed the participant on both the revenue and the expenditure of the Assembly.
He said most of the Assembly revenue projections were not met. He advised that every one of the Assembly should help in mobilizing revenue for the Assembly.
The Municipal director of education Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey in his presentation mention a number of activities they had carry out in the mid-year. Mr. Tettey said they distributed laptops for KG Teachers to facilitated teaching and learning, observed my first day at school, campaign on operation go back to school for girls who were pregnant and as a result could not continue with their education just to mention a few.
Bringing the program to an end, the chairman in his closing remarks advised all the heads of department to work hard to meet their target set for the year so that correctively the Assembly will achieve its goal.

RESEARCH & EXTENSION LINKAGE COMMITTEE (RELC)

On July 19th, 2023, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, led by its Agric Department, successfully concluded its Research & Extension Linkage Committee (RELC) Session at Kpong Methodist Church. During the session, stakeholders such as farmers, input dealers, aggregator processors, transporters, extension officers, and research officers came together to discuss the agriculture value chain. The topics covered included constraints, challenges, potential solutions, and the way forward in the agricultural sector.

Its impact on the community is significant and multifaceted:

1. Knowledge Transfer: The RELC facilitates the exchange of knowledge and information between researchers, extension officers, and farmers. It ensures that research findings, best practices, and innovative technologies are effectively communicated to the community, enabling farmers to adopt improved agricultural techniques and technologies.

2. Improved Farming Practices: Through the RELC, extension officers can better understand the specific needs and challenges faced by farmers in the community. This understanding allows them to tailor their extension services and provide personalized advice and support, leading to the adoption of more effective and sustainable farming practices.

3. Capacity Building: The RELC organizes training programs, workshops, and demonstrations to build the capacity of farmers and other stakeholders in the community. These capacity-building initiatives enhance farmers’ skills, knowledge, and capabilities, empowering them to make informed decisions and improve their agricultural productivity.

4. Enhanced Collaboration: By bringing together various stakeholders, including farmers, input dealers, processors, and research officers, the RELC fosters collaboration and partnership among these actors. This collaboration can lead to more effective problem-solving, resource sharing, and joint initiatives that benefit the entire community.

5. Addressing Challenges: The RELC provides a platform for stakeholders to identify and discuss the constraints and challenges faced by the community in the agriculture value chain. By collectively addressing these challenges, the committee can develop targeted solutions and interventions that contribute to the overall growth and development of the community’s agricultural sector.

Sustainable Development: Through the RELC’s efforts, the community can adopt sustainable farming practices and technologies that promote environmental conservation and minimize negative impacts on natural resources. This contributes to the long-term sustainability of agriculture and ensures the well-being of future generations.

Overall, the Research & Extension Linkage Committee (RELC) serves as a bridge between the research community and the grassroots level, promoting knowledge dissemination, capacity building, collaboration, and sustainable development in the agricultural sector. Its activities and initiatives positively impact the livelihoods of farmers and the overall prosperity of the community.

YOUSTART GHANA JOBS AND SKILLS PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly started the Youstart Ghana Jobs and Skills Project Implementation which was held at Dangme Tongu Presbytery Conference Hall at Odumase. The implementation dates were from 8th-30th June,2023 and they have two sections for the program; basic and intermediate. They had five (5) days for Basic and ten (10) days for intermediate. The Total number of participants were seventy (70) made up of two (2) male and sixty-eight (68) females who took part in the Basic Implementation. Whereas twenty (20) participants were selected out of the seventy (70) for the intermediate Implementation. Therefore, out of twenty (20), two (2) were male, and eighteen (18) for females.
BACKGROUND
Unemployment and underemployment remain the two global development challenges, with the World Bank estimating that about 200 million youth are unemployed worldwide requiring a total of 600 million jobs over the next 15 years to maintain global employment rates. In the year 2016, it was projected in Ghana that due to the country’s growing youth population, 300,000 new jobs would have to be created each year to absorb the increasing number of unemployed young people. To address this challenge, the World Bank is providing financing and technical support to the Government of Ghana (GoG) for the implementation of the Ghana Jobs and Skills Projects. This project is considered as one of the main forms of support for the government’s top-priority agenda of upgrading skills among the country’s population, creating more and better quality jobs, and improving job outcomes for the youth.

INTRODUCTION
The Youstart Ghana Jobs and Skills Project is one of the flagship programs of the Government of Ghana being implemented across the country by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), with funding from the World Bank. The Project supports the Government’s prioritized skills development and job creation agenda with the objective of providing Entrepreneurship Training and Competitive Business Start-up Grants to individuals for jobs. The Project is geared to train 50,000+ youth and to provide
Target beneficiaries comprises of 50% women, Persons with Disability (PWD), unemployed youth and existing MSMEs owned by school drop outs between the ages of 18 to 40 years.
The Project comes in three (3) levels; thus the Basic, the Intermediate and the Advanced Level. At every level, you will be assessed as to ensure that you are actually starting your business, growing your business and sustaining your business.
Currently the project is at the Intermediate Level.
OBJECTIVE
The focus of this project is to provide the Youth of Ghana access to training and the tools that will help them to build, grow and sustain their businesses

KROBO GIRLS GET NEW HOME ECONOMICS BLOCK FROM GNPC

In the early hours of Thursday, May 25th, a delegation from GNPC led by Board Chairman, Mr. Freddie Blay, officially handed over the newly completed 7-unit home economics block to the Krobo Girls Presbyterian SHS community.
The facility, which was fully funded by the GNPC Foundation, will now accommodate the school’s home economics department.
Mrs. Bernice Noel Mensah-Akutteh, the headmistress of Krobo Girls Presbyterian SHS, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the entire GNPC fraternity for providing this modern edifice, which will go a long way to improving teaching and learning in the school.
Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, MCE for Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, commended GNPC for the tremendous infrastructure support given to his municipality over the past few years he has been in office.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the Board Chairman of GNPC, Mr. Freddie Blay, to use his high office to help secure a bus for Krobo Girls Presbyterian SHS since running this great school with over 2800 students without a school bus has been a great challenge to the management and himself as the MCE for the area.
Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey, Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Director, expressed his profound gratitude to GNPC and the GNPC Foundation in his speech, as he assured them that, as the manager of all the schools in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, he will make sure this all-important project is properly maintained to serve its purpose.
He concluded by appealing to the GNPC Foundation to support the education sector in the municipality since there are some infrastructure gaps in the area and they will need their support.

12-UNIT DORMITORY BLOCK UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT KROBO GIRLS PRESBYTERIAN SHS

On Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, MCE for Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, and some other stakeholders inspected the fast progress of the second phase of an additional 12-unit dormitory block that is currently under construction at Krobo Girls Presbyterian SHS.
Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh expressed his satisfaction with the project, which is expected to be completed within the month of July or August.
Headmistress of Krobo Girls Presbyterian SHS, Mrs. Bernice Noel Mensah-Akutteh, expressed her heartiest appreciation to all stakeholders who worked tirelessly to make sure the second first of this project sees daylight as he used the opportunity to appeal to the government and other stakeholders to provide a school to ease the movement of over 2800 students for academic events, among others.

LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY INAUGURATED NINE (9) MEMBER INTERIM MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly on 18th May, 2023 inaugurated a nine (9) member interim management committee to steer the affairs of the Assembly until the district Assembly election is held. The event which took place at the Municipal Assembly Hall brought together the lives of some traditional authorities, heads of department, and party folks across both political devices. The Eastern Regional Minister, the Sector Minister for Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Simon Kwaku Tetteh in his welcome address thanked both the Regional Minister and the Sector Minister for making time out of their busy schedule to be part of the program. The MCE said the District Assembly election in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality deviated from the National one as a result of a court case filed against the Electoral Commission of Ghana in 2012 hence changing the calendar from the National one. He said the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly inaugurated its 7th Assembly on 19th January 2019 while the national one was held in October 2019 hence the term of the 7th Assembly came to an end on 18th January 2023. Hon Simon said, the electoral commission has put measures in place to run the election to fulfill their constitutional mandate but was slapped with a court injunction by two individuals within the Municipality to restrain them from conducting the election which created a vacuum. To fill the vacuum, the MCE said the Assembly has done some consultation with some stakeholders in the Municipality, and per the local government ACT 2016 (ACT 936) Section 6 subsection 3 stated that the president is the only person who may appoint an interim management committee to perform the function of the Assembly an event the electoral commission is unable to conduct the District Assembly election. In this direction, the Assembly has appealed to His Excellency President Nana Akuffo Addo through the local government Minister to appoint a nine-member committee to perform the functions of the Assembly until the election is conducted for which he has approved. Hon Tetteh took the opportunity to mention some projects the Assembly has done with the urban development grant (UDG). He requested the Local Government Minister Hon. Daniel Kwaku Botwe to use the UDG 4 and 5 to repair the main road from Dorhetso to Kpong which is in a deplorable state.
Speaking on the approval of the Nine (9) member committee, Hon. Daniel Kwaku Botwe said, his office has received some letters emanating from the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly and the overlord his royal majesty Nene Sakite II Kono of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area and the president of the Eastern regional house of chief requesting to shift the assembly election to meet the national one. Hon Daniel Kweku Botwe said, upon receiving these letters, he forwarded them to the president for his consideration and approval which he has done.
Commenting on the function of the interim management committee, Hon Daniel Botwe said, it is not different from the work of an Assembly member and so he asked them to consult the group they represent before and after the committee meeting. 100 GIRLS BENEFITTED FROM THE UNESCO-PRADA PROJECT

100 girls in the Lower Mana Krobo Municipality benefitted from the UNESCO-PRADA Project, which aims to improve modern means and provide proper counseling and guidance to help assist the girl children who dropped out of school to go back to school and to keep those in school smoothly continue their education.
The Lower Manya Krobo Municipality is one of the three MMDAs in the country that are currently receiving support from the UNESCO -PRADA Project.
In the early hours of Thursday, May 4th, 2023, Mrs. Gifty Asiedu, Director of the Girls Education Unit at Ghana Education Service, presented 100 backpacks containing sanitary pads, school uniforms, footwear, and teaching and learning materials.
She made the presentation after a brief meeting with the Municipal Project vetting team led by Mrs. Agnes Nanor and Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey, where she applauded the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal UNESCO-PRADA, the project team for the outstanding implementation of this all-important project, which is aimed at identifying girls who dropped out of school and helping them get back.
Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey, Lower Manya Krobo Municipality Director of Education, addressing the gathering of some beneficiaries, parents, teachers, and stakeholders that was held at the forecourt of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Directorate office at Kpong, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Ghana Education Service, UNESCO – PRADA, and other organizations that together have made the project a success so far.
Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey continued to appeal to all, especially the parents of the dropped-out girls, to play very active roles in supporting their girls in school since this project and its implementors alone can’t sustain the girls without their support.
He concluded by thanking the 30-member municipal implementation task force for their outstanding work so far and assuring the donors that their support will be put to good use.
Mrs. Agnes Nanor, team leader of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Vetting Committee under the UNESCO-PRADA Project, in her brief address, cautioned parents to stop pushing responsibility on their unemployed girl child since that action has led a lot of them into situations, they’re not ready to handle, ending up forcing them out of school.

The team from the Ghana Education Service joined the team from the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal UNESCO -PRADA Project tasked to distribute the packages to some of the girls, made up of 15 young mothers and 85 needy girls who were selected from 35 out of the 38 junior high schools in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

UNESCO- PRADA PROJECT LAUNCHED

UNESCO-PRADA on March 23, 2023, at the Conference Center of the Dangme-Tongu Presbytery, Odumase-Krobo officially launched the pilot phase of the UNESCO-PRADA Project, which aims at improving school attendance and continuity of learning by the girl child and also to comprehend efforts to bring back-to-school girls who dropped out of school by providing counseling and guidance, as well as other supports.
Stakeholders from all the 3 beneficiary MMDAs duly represented as well as a high-powered traditional delegation from the Manya Krobo Traditional area were also in attendance to represent the Overlord, His Royal Majesty, Nene Sakite II.
The major partners on this project are ICDP – International Child Development Program, Child Online Africa, and Ghana Education Service.

BANS CONSULT LIMITED HELD A MEETING WITH LOWER MANYA KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

Bans consult Limited, the consulting firm handling UDG3 for Lower Manya Krobo visited the Municipality on 20th April, 2023 for validation of the design of the projects. It was also to present the total cost of the projects to the client (Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly ) and take their input before the final design is prepared.
The client thanked the consultant for the good work done. They promised to submit their input if any latest by Monday 24th April, 2023.
